This website (infinitedescent.xyz), has been the home of An Infinite Descent into Pure Mathematics for almost 10 years, but I have decided to move away from using WordPress and move to a new domain name: infinitedescent.org.
The move away from WordPress is simply that I don’t need all of its features. The new web page is much simpler and easier for me to maintain.
As for the domain name: at the time I registered ‘infinitedescent.xyz’ in June 2016, .xyz domains were still relatively new and I thought ‘xyz’ was a good fit for a mathematics textbook. Since then, whether justified or not, the .xyz top-level domain has developed a reputation of being used for nefarious purposes (such as spam). This has resulted in some people being unable to access the website, and I have had some issues with emails from my @infinitedescent.xyz address going straight to spam folders. For these reasons I will be phasing out the .xyz domain and moving everything to infinitedescent.org.
Both infinitedescent.xyz and infinitedescent.org will remain active for now. I will be updating the URLs in the textbook to the .org domain name, and eventually this website will be archived and the infinitedescent.xyz domain will simply forward to infinitedescent.org.
